8. Lou Smith €“ The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air

Will€™s mother sent him to live in Bel-Air in order to get him away from the bad influences of his neighbourhood. In doing so Will received stability in his home life and a better chance to make something of his life. He also got something he never had before - a father figure. Will€™s father Lou abandoned the family when he was a child, thus leaving his mother Viola a single parent. Uncle Phil was exactly what Will needed, a stern hand that would set him on the right path and make damn sure that he stayed there. However, this progress was put at risk when one day Lou returned. Uncle Phil could only stand back and watch as Lou filled Will€™s head with promises he never intended to keep. Unsurprisingly, he abandoned his son again, leaving Will devastated and requiring Phil to pick up the pieces. The true power of this episode comes from its successful depiction of a positive male role model; without diminishing the contributions of Viola or Aunt Viv, it showed exactly what a Dad should be and made us all wish we had an Uncle like Phil. The episodes powerful climax is arguably the most memorable moment in the series and highlighted the talent of Will Smith.
