Over the decades, we've seen animated shows which have been within the realm of horror (Courage The Cowardly Dog), fantasy (Avatar: The Last Airbender), mystery (Scooby-Doo), adult comedy (Bojack Horseman) and not forgetting the beloved genre of science fiction.

Whether it's travelling through outer space or battling against extra terrestrial life forms, the genre of science fiction has provided plenty of open goals to delve into, which have ultimately made for some incredible storytelling and captivating animated sequences.

And narrowing it down, the following shows have clearly mastered the craft of intertwining animation with a heavy dose of depthful science fiction.

10. The Jetsons

It portrayed the typical American family and what life would be like in the future, complete with space ships, cleaning robots, advanced technology and...treadmills.

You all know the catchy theme tune - "Meet George Jetson. His Boy Elroy. Daughter Judy. Jane his wife" - and that classic moment where George's wife steals his wallet for shopping. It's all round delightful cartoon which laid down the basics for animated shows of a similar tone.

Sure, the depiction of what future technology might hold for us is rather outdated now, but the Jetsons will never be without their charm.
