10. Cordelia

Cordelia Chase may seem like a strange choice given how mean and self-centred she is, particularly at the start of the show. Throughout Season 1, she carries a level of disdain for many of her classmates and even describes Willow and Xander as ‘losers’.

But Cordelia evolves during her final years at Sunnydale High. Despite her previous dislike of Xander, she ends up ditching her popular friends in order to engage in an intimate relationship with him. (Though it’s fair to say their romance is far from ideal.)

What’s more, there’s something amusing about her brutal honesty. She has almost no filter when it comes to speaking her mind. Even when she becomes a member of the Scooby Gang, she doesn’t mind throwing insults at the others.

It’s just a shame she isn’t featured beyond the high-school seasons. Though her story continues in Angel (the Buffy spin-off), it would have been cool to see her come back to the original show at some point.
