Baz Luhrmann’s musical extravaganza The Get Down cast the spotlight on the rise of hip hop music in 1997. The 11-episode run came to an end largely because Luhrmann was unable to commit to the second season due to his film schedule.

Though it didn’t get the finale it deserved, The Get Down was an impressive outing for Netflix due to its especially high quality. Though it’s likely that the show's incredible $120 million production price tag might have also played a role in the streaming giant choosing not to renew it.
