Unfortunately, many of these come at a cost, and owning subscriptions to more than a couple of these streaming services can set you back a surprising amount every month. Thankfully, the wonderful team at Tubi have highlighted a number of shows that you can watch for free.

With that in mind, here's the ten sci-fi shows you need to be streaming right now...

10. Andromeda

This space set sci-fi was based on unused material by the late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, and produced by his widow, Majel Barrett.

Running between 2000 and 2005, Andromeda follows the adventures of Captain Dylan Hunt and his crew thousands of years in the future during an era known as 'The Long Night', when the utopian republic of the Systems Commonwealth is at war with the bat-like Magog and the genetically engineered Nietzscheans. Hunt is the captain of the Commonwealth ship Andromeda Ascendant, which is caught at the edge of the event horizon of a black hole, freezing Hunt and the ship in time. Over 300 years later, Hunt is rescued by the crew of the salvage ship Eureka Maru, and leads them on a mission to reform the Commonwealth.

While there are some trekky elements in there, the series as a whole feels much darker, especially with the lighting and general tone. There are more adult themes present and the show feels very political at times. The show won many awards throughout its five season run and has been left with a strong cult following today.
