Twists and turns are the order of the day here. There's a brain-teasing mix of false evidence, misdirections and hard, solid evidence to keep things interesting across seven episodes and six unique murder cases. The bizarre 1994 murder of Atif Rafay's family, and the mystery behind it, is a red-hot way to open things up.

Later episodes look at everything from house fires and burglaries to retracted confessions, rapes and automobile slayings. Throughout, Confession Tapes is an addictive look into genuine drama that skips glamourisation in favour of showing how harrowing human life can be behind closed doors.

If you enjoyed The Keepers (another worthwhile series that just failed to land a spot on the list), then you'll go all in on this one. The zippy pace and multiple-case format keeps things moving along; it's impossible to be bored.
