6. Westworld

Westworld debuted a new trailer during the Super Bowl and the footage made one thing abundantly clear: the robot war is coming.

Season One ended with cliffhangers and a healthy dose of mystery as the eponymous Western-themed resort started coming apart at the seams, its robot residents gaining a new level of self-awareness and plotting to overthrow their creators.

“We can burn it to the ground,” says Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores Abernathy in the teaser footage. “From the ashes, build a new world. Our world.”

That dialogue alone sets the scene nicely for Westworld Season 2, and the fact the trailer also includes plenty of robot on human violence and a band of armed guards being trampled beneath the hooves of mechanical bulls only ups the anticipation.

Westworld's first season was a puzzle box of science fiction delights, challenging viewers with its non-linear storytelling, narrative misdirection and unforeseen twists. Expect more of this when the HBO show returns on 22 April.
