The name of this show sounds like it could be about kittens fighting adorably in an arena, a sort of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome for the feline set. And if that was what Whisker Wars was actually about, it would probably be pretty awesome. But it turns out that the show is about men growing beards. So...exciting stuff. You might think it would be difficult to make an entire show around men competing to grow beards. That would take a really long time, you protest, and who would be interested in watching that sort of drivel anyway? Well, the producers of Whisker Wars have a response for you, and it basically boils down to, "Shut up, your logic has no place here." American beard-growing team captain Phil Johnson works to assemble the perfect squad of bearded men to represent the US in international competitions. It is not a task that he takes lightly, and the show actually manages to cultivate a certain amount of dramatic tension. Whisker Wars might seem more like a Christopher Guest mockumentary than anything else, but we promise that it's real.
