The Man-Thing is an empathic swamp creature that is the guardian of the Nexus of All Realities in the Florida Everglades. He was originally a man, Dr Ted Sallis, who was attempting to recreate the Super Soldier Serum that created Captain America. He was ambushed in his lab by the terrorist group A.I.M., so he injected himself with the only sample of his serum in order to save his life. During his escape, he crashed his car into the swamp and emerged as Man-Thing. The Man-Thing represents something different for Marvel. He is not a superhero, but a horror monster. He cannot speak, but secretes a strong chemical corrosive when he senses violent emotions and fear in others. These emotions cause the Man-Thing pain so he is driven to seek them out and eliminate them, leading to the catchphrase Whatever knows fear burns at the touch of the Man-Thing. He also has superhuman strength and is practically invulnerable. There are connections between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Man-Thing in his origin. The S.H.I.E.L.D. member Bobby Morse aka Mockingbird was part of the research team working on the Super Soldier Serum with Sallis. The terrorist group A.I.M. are also set to appear in Iron Man 3. These connections with S.H.I.E.L.D. and A.I.M. and the horror element of Man-Thing would make him a very interesting cameo in the TV series.
