One of the odder experiments in animation by the networks, Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot was an adaptation of a Frank Miller and Geof Darrow comic. The titular characters were two robots designed to protect New Tronic City from alien or human created threats: the former was a 1950s American made piloted mech with giant Gatling guns built in, while the latter is basically Astro Boy with clothes. When Astro Boy cant handle being a hero despite his high tech weapons and capabilities, the government decides to keep Big Guy around to train the new robot. Big Guy and Rusty is probably the most obscure show on this list its an adaptation of a barely known Frank Miller comic, it had a short run that ended just over six months before 9/11, and aside from episodes uploaded to YouTube (that cant be watched in the US), the show isnt available anywhere. Despite that, its worth watching for the surreal experience of Bobby Hills voice coming out of Rustys mouth, R. Lee Ermey playing a general, and Tim Curry as the mutated scientist Dr. Neugog, who turned into a spider like creature that eats peoples brains. While it seems like a long shot for a Blu-Ray release, since it doesnt have that big a fanbase, it seems like a good choice for anyone trying to ride the wave of giant robot interest that Pacific Rim might make.
