When Arrow first hit the air in fall 2012, it was touted as a realistic look at the superhero Green Arrow that would not feature any superpowers, and for the first season they followed that rule. That changed in the second season with the introduction of Barry Allen. After visiting Starling City to help Oliver and the gang stop Cyrus Gold and recover the stolen centrifuge, Barry came back to Central City to watch the new particle accelerator be turned on. Arriving too late, he went back to his lab just as the accelerator exploded across town, knocking out the citys power and launching an energy wave. A minute later, lightning strikes Barry through the window and knocks him into the chemicals in his labs. Glowing with energy, he has been stuck in a coma since, but hell soon awaken with new super speed powers and use these abilities to help others the Flash, Central Citys Scarlet Speedster. While he was originally going to debut his powers later in season 2 of Arrow, Barry will now be introduced as The Flash in his own pilot, which will likely lead to a new series. So far only two other characters have been confirmed for the pilot: Iris West and her father Detective West, who will be played by Jesse L. Martin. According to their casting information, Barry goes to live with the Wests after his mother is killed and his father goes to prison for the murder. Barry apparently has strong feelings for Iris, while Detective West was a surrogate father to Barry and supports his efforts to prove his fathers innocence. In the comics, Iris is Barrys primary love interest and was married to him until the universe-changing Flashpoint event. Other characters rumored to be a part of the series include arch-enemy Eobard Thawne, a.k.a. Professor Zoom, and other DC superhero Cisco Ramon, a.k.a. Vibe. Im not quite sure about the legitimacy of Vibes inclusion, despite the rumors stating he wouldnt have his superpowers and would just be one of Barrys friends, but Id be surprised if Thawne wasnt included in the show. In the comics, Zoom is best known as the time-traveling speedster who travels back to kill Barrys mother, setting in motion the events that would lead him to become the Flash. The supposed casting information for Zoom lists him as Eddie Thawne, a Central City detective who harbors a dark secret and takes credit for Barrys work. Considering that in Arrow Barry mentioned a blur-like tornado force at his house the day his mother was killed, it seems likely that the TV series will feature the legendary feud between the two speedsters. Still, there are so many characters from the Flash mythos for the show to draw from. Not only does he have many friends and allies helping him out, but he has one of the diverse rogues gallery in all of comics, in my opinion trailing only behind Batman, Spider-Man and possibly Superman. If this gets picked up as a series, and hopefully it does, I believe these characters on interesting enough not only to support and challenge Barry, but to provide great stories for the show that could be told over (ideally) many seasons. With that said, Ive taken a look at all the Flash characters that have appeared over the years and selected the ones that would have the best long-term potential. After much research, here are the 10 Flash characters I think should recur on the TV series.
