10 Comic Book TV Shows Cancelled Before Their Time

6. The Flash (1990)

Comic book television series have found a home thanks to the success of series like Smallville and Arrow, but back in the nineties, those series were hit or miss. One show that was well done for its time and appreciated by fans was The Flash, which aired on CBS in 1990.

The show only aired for one season consisting of 22 episodes, but helped to establish the Scarlet Speedster as a real commodity for television. Anyone who knows of the so-called Flarrowverse is aware of The CW's successful Flash series starring Grant Gustin, but the nineties was not the right time for a live-action Flash.

The series suffered from a time-slot shuffle, which ended up forcing it to compete with The Cosby Show and The Simpsons. This ended up causing movements, which didn't help retain an audience and moving a series several times to different days in its first season almost always spells its cancellation.

Fortunately, The Flash has been reborn on The CW, and that series has several connections to this one. John Wesley Shipp, who played the Flash in the nineties series has played Dr. Henry Allen, Jay Garrick, and Barry Allen in different versions of the character on the new show. Additionally, Mark Hamill reprised his role as The Trickster on the new series in much the same way he portrayed him on the nineties show.
