5. A Matter Of Life And Death

The Eighth Doctor sadly only ever appeared in the 1996 TV movie, and then appeared only once again in a short explaining how he regenerated into the War Doctor.

But in this comic story published in 2016, the Eighth Doctor gets another chance to save people with his newest companion Josie Day. In A Matter of Life and Death, the Doctor stumbles upon a barge for the super-rich upon which they are granted immortality through their brains being implanted inside robotic bodies, similar to the Major from Ghost in the Shell.

But the robotic bodies are rebelling against their human hosts and the Eighth Doctor needs to find out why and how to prevent more needless death. This story goes above and beyond simple robotic uprisings and eventually reveals Josie's past. The story is confined to a few locations and yet is a very emotional rollercoaster involving the Doctor's kindness, and even has a surprising ending.

Overall this comic story helps to give fans just a bit more of the Eighth Doctor, showing his potential if he was ever given the chance to continue in TV form. While that is obviously improbable now, this comic story presents an interesting Doctor Who journey that could easily work if it had been shown on tv.
