10 Doctor Who Stories That Would Make Great Musicals
Time and relative dimension in song!
The West End theatre scene is flooded with musicals. The sprouting of singing extravaganzas out of every conceivable source, from the back catalogue of a pop combo to the life of a witch, is a phenomenon worthy of investigation by the good Doctor himself. The world's longest running science-fiction programme has certainly capitalised on its success via the live circuit. As early as the 1960s there was the Curse of the Daleks play, followed by The Seven Keys to Doomsday. But these were strictly dialogue-heavy affairs. Aside from the recent staged spectaculars with their orchestral accompaniments, the only bonafide show with full-on warbling was The Ultimate Adventure (pictured above), where Jon Pertwee and then Colin Baker got their knees up for a universe spanning lyric-fest featuring the likes of Daleks and Margaret Thatcher. With audiences hungrier than ever for stars of the small screen to start belting their lungs out, now is surely the time to consider a proper Who musical - or "Whosical" - again. What stories could be ripe for transfer to this notoriously harsh environment? And more importantly, who could play the role of the Doctor?
