10. Pretty Little Liars - CeCe Is A And It's Completely Transphobic

Pretty Little Liars was a show that constantly made wacky choices to shock the audience. And considering the series revolved around a central mystery of "who is A", most of the melodramatic mystery's outlandish plot twists had something to do with that narrative.

All the "A" reveals in the series were pretty lacklustre - and with every one fans threatened to quit the show - but one A reveal was far worse than the rest...

The reveal in question was of CeCe. After the Season 5 finale revealed A to be Charles DiLaurentis, fans of the show spent the break between seasons, and the first half of the sixth season, trying to figure out which guy from the show Charles was.

Giving A a gender so long before the big reveal may seem constricting, but there were so many male PLL characters that it could have been, so the mystery was still strong.

Instead, the show decided to capitalise on the transgender community and reveal that Charles is actually CeCe and that she had transitioned secretly when she was younger.

The show did a horrible job at representing the trans community, offending pretty much everyone with the reveal. Not only did they use it as a cheap shock tactic, but they presented CeCe as mentally unstable and villainous. It was a catAstrophe, and LGBTQ+ fans refused to come back for the rest of the teen drama.
