Abed and Troy are certainly a pair of unlikely platonic bedfellows. Troy is an ex-high-school football star, coming to terms with the fact that he peaked at 18. Abed is a socially awkward film geek, whose conversations are peppered with references from everything from The Breakfast Club to Cougar Town. At a glance, there's really no reason why they should be friends. But they are. And it's glorious. Although seemingly quite different, they grow incredibly attached to one another, with Troy even referring to Abed as his other half. Abed struggles to express his emotions, while Troy can be rather overemotional, so together they make one emotionally stable human being. What makes this story even more adorable is that originally, they were never meant to be best friends. The writers had planned on pairing Abed off with Jeff, and Troy with Pierce (which is just as stupid as it sounds and Community wouldn't have lasted five episodes if this had actually played out). But you can't fight chemistry, man, because as soon as they saw Danny Pudi and Donald Glover interacting with one another, they realized that it was fate.
