Starring: Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgård , Landon Liboiron, Dougray Scott

Network: Netflix

With horror aficionado Eli Roth serving as executive producer, Netflix's Hemlock Grove was always going to be heavy on the gothic horror. Based on Brian McGreevy's book, the show is set in a fictional Pennsylvanian town which is shaken by a string of recent murders.

The events may or may not be connected to Landon Liboiron's newcomer, but that is only the beginning. The heart of the show is the Addams Family incarnate, and the shadowy Godfrey family is headed up superbly by Famke Janssen. We can also thank Hemlock Grove for opening the door to Bill Skarsgård taking up the role of Pennywise the Clown in the remake of Stephen King's IT.

Hemlock may never have got the praise it deserved, and was always a bit too far out there, even for a horror show. However, it helped Netflix earn the first ever Primetime Emmy Award for original online shows. What could easily have ended up as your typical werewolf show, Hemlock cleverly balanced the theme of other horror staples like vampires and mad scientists.
