Cersei Lannister suffered a walk of shame like nobody before her in season five’s finale. It is bad enough limping home with one shoe and a beer-stained shirt.

Shaven and stripped naked, the queen regent was subjected to a humiliating atonement through the streets of King’s Landing, heckled and abused by the hateful peasants whom she had neglected as Septa Unella cried ‘shame’ with every step.

It was both shocking and shockingly uncomfortable. One might have thought that to see Cersei face an overdue punishment would be fulfilling, but the intensity and reality of the scene began to have a contrasting effect during the four-minute long march.

Actress Lena Headey, as she always does, did an amazing job. Showing bravery to hold back her tears until she was out of sight of her people, she made viewers temporarily forget about Cersei’s sins and drew sympathy for her otherwise despised character.
