10 Most Underrated Sci-Fi/Fantasy Shows
10. SeaQuest DSV
Dystopian fiction when done right, is something to behold. This show from the mid 90s painted a picture of the future that almost 15 years on, feels more and more likely with each passing day. Though, thankfully their version of 2018 didn’t quite turn out to be true.
The story is set at a time when humans have used up most of the earth’s resources, shock horror, and now must expand their operations on the ocean floor in order to extract what still remains. This has led to formation underwater colonies which in turn become embroiled in their own conflicts, as well as those with the surface world.
In order to quell these disputes, the various nations decide to form their own version of the United Nations, called the United Earth Oceans Organization. The major action taken by said organization was to commission the seaQuest DSV, a Jules Verne type underwater vehicle whose job is to protect the colonies and help better understand the deep sea world.
From there on, the seaQuest DSV and its crew tackle various issues, all the while the environmental theme continues to loom over the plot. It takes front and center of the story during the season one finale when the captain of the ship, Nathan Bridger has to sacrifice the DSV in order to stop a massive environmental disaster from happening.
