Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist really is a rare breed of show in that it just shouldn't work and yet it absolutely does. There's no single explanation for why it does either because the strange experience really is the sum of its most brilliant parts.

A musical comedy, it follows the adventures of Jane Levy's Zoey Clarke after she is gifted with the ability to hear the innermost thoughts and feelings of everyone around her through - yep, you guessed it - song. And with that comes the endless supply of musical numbers from an impressive cast consisting of Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, Mary Steenburgen and, of course, the wonderful Lauren Graham.

As for why it's underrated? Well, there are a number of reasons for that. For starters, the writing is witty, yes, but it's so much more than your average comedy, offering up a premise that is full of heart - one that efficiently uses music to further the story.

With its impeccable cast, Zoey is a show that would have thrived if it were on a streaming service, but its presence on network television has resulted in it flying somewhat under the radar. If we're being honest, it was very lucky to get renewed for a second season with the low viewing figures it was pulling in, but let's just hope it's given more of a chance to shine going forward - because, considering how clever it is, it really deserves it.
