10. Robert Knepper – Theodore ‘T-Bag’ Bagwell, Prison Break
Look – we know that, in the pantheon of TV’s golden age, Prison Break cannot hold a shiv to the likes of Mad Men and Breaking Bad – but it is, appropriately enough, a decent form of escapism.
A major reason for that is the bravura Knepper, who somehow manages to layer his creepy, lip-smacking, child molesting character T-Bag with a flamboyantly dark comic element, which he effortlessly reels back to preserve the overarching, sinister core. It takes a special talent to transcend the limitations of the source material. Knepper is part of an elite group.
While the Prison Break writers found it easier to run away from the plot than the inmates did from the pen, Peaks devotees will nonetheless be salivating at the prospect of what Lynch can harness from Knepper, who, perhaps more than any of the great new additions, seems perfectly suited to loom menacingly between two worlds. Just run away when he asks you to hold the inside of his pocket...
