10 Reasons To Greenlight Star Trek: Janeway NOW
5. Kate Mulgrew Has Janeway's Back
Kate Mulgrew takes both Janeway and her legacy seriously. Over the years, she's been open and vocal about just how much she's invested in the character. She has equal respect for Star Trek: Prodigy, having previously discussed how much she loves the show on the TrekCulture podcast.
TrekCulture's very own Seán Ferrick was lucky enough to attend 'An Evening With...' during the 2025 Star Trek: The Cruise VIII, where Mulgrew spoke about her concerns over possible fan reactions to a new Janeway series, as well as her lack of interest in pursuing a mere vanity piece. She's also reportedly made a number of public comments about how high-quality a script and story would need to be for her to sign up.
All of this suggests an actor who takes pride in her work. Mulgrew has made it clear that she has no intention of accepting just any old script for the sake of another credit. She cares, deeply, just as much as we do. She sounds like someone who is going to need some persuading before agreeing to any kind of Janeway show. And that should hopefully reassure fans about any future projects.
It seems that if a new series is announced, we can be confident it met Mulgrew's high standards. And that should be music to any fan's ears...because the last thing we want is a damp squib. Both Janeway and her fans deserve a meaningful story and an excellent script.
