10 Reasons Why Doctor Aphra Deserves A Disney+ Series
10. Pre-Existing Stories
After Disney bought out LucasFilm and took over stewardship of the Star Wars Universe, the duties of publishing comics eventually migrated to Marvel. Dark Horse had been LucasFilm's publishing partner for a couple of decades but Marvel was another Disney company. The House of Mouse naturally wanted to keep everything under the same roof.
It was, in a way, a homecoming for Star Wars comics, as Marvel was the original publisher prior to Dark Horse.
The downside was Dark Horse had spent years putting out some incredible Expanded Universe content that was now null and void. It was a bitter pill for long time fans to swallow.
The upside was Marvel delved into some new stories and characters, including Doctor Aphra who appeared in Darth Vader's comic series, before getting her own title. While she has primarily appeared in the comics, there is a lot of backstory to work with to build a new show from. Naturally it doesn't have to mirror the comics, but in terms of source material there certainly isn't a small amount to work with.
