10 Reasons You Should Be Watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine

5. It Gets Relationships Right

Much like its older sibling Parks & Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine excels at presenting a variety of romantic relationships in both hilarious and moving ways. They have the long-term couples (both Holt and Terry are happily married), crushes, flings and an excellently played will-they-won't-they. Characters fall in and out of love in ways that feel organic and real even in such a heightened setting. One of the best moves the show made was back in the first season when they realised that Boyle- Jake's best friend and partner- was lusting after Diaz- another cop- in a creepy way that undermined the likability of his character. The writers had him move on and become simply a good friend to Diaz, subverting the audience's expectations that he would either "get the girl" or continue to pine forever.
