10 Rick And Morty Fan Theories That Change Everything
10. It's Set In The Same Continuity As Futurama
There has been no shortage of crossover between the biggest cartoon shows in the past. The Simpsons finally came together with both Futurama and Family Guy in 2014, and Seth MacFarlane's trio of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show all shared a story line in 2011.
Rick and Morty also crossed over with The Simpsons by way of a couch gag in the season 26 episode, Mathlete's Feat. While this scene saw the two crash land in Springfield, it actually raised more questions about the show's relationship with Futurama.
As Morty goes through the portal to an alien world to bring Homer and co. back to life, there is a litter of references to the show based in the 31st century. The Planet Express ship can be seen flying through the background, Morty walks past a Slurm vending machine, and there is a man queuing with a brain slug on his head.
Of course, the timelines don't quite add up since Rick and Morty appears to take place in the present day, but it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that Rick sent Morty into the future to bring the Simpsons back. Maybe the show takes place in the present while Fry is trapped in the cryogenic freezer tube.
