2. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Until the Abrams reboot, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was the most commercially successful film in the Star Trek franchise. It was commended for both its lightness of touch and important ecological message. The World WIldlife Fund even screened the film to celebrate the banning of commercial whaling at an event in 1987.
It's a hugely influential Star Trek film, inspiring the previously mentioned Past Tense and many other Star Trek time travel comedies like DS9's Little Green Men and even certain elements of First Contact. It was also cited as an influence on season 2 of Picard, put forward by co-showrunner and 12 Monkeys writer Terry Matalas.
There's clearly an environmental concern at the heart of Star Trek: Picard season 2, as Q notes that his altered reality chose to keep the polluted and dying planet on life support. There's less jokes in Picard season 2, but Rios' bone crunching, Wile E Coyote style transporter accident is in keeping with the comic juxtaposition of Star Trek with the real-world that was perfected in The Voyage Home.
