Ah, Doctor Who. It lights up our screens for 3 months a year (and then once again at Christmas) and for the rest of the time, its fans are twiddling their thumbs and waiting for it to come back. That's one of the true powers behind the world's longest running science fiction series and no doubt one of the overriding factors that continues to contribute to its unbeatable longevity. Its fans just cannot get enough. The exciting thing about the show's premise, of course, is that quite literally anything can - and will - happen. The Master's shock return as a woman (did they mention... bananas?) at the end of the last series is enough to vouch for that and just when you think you've got everything sussed, the series is catapulted off into a fresh new direction which makes the ongoing escapades of TV's favourite Time Lord just as exciting and original as they were over half a century ago. Each series is a blank slate which means that there's always an ever growing amount of fevered speculation regarding what the Doctor will be encountering in his next string of adventures. More often than not, the most hotly discussed rumours involve the return of the show's most popular friends and foes and there's quite frankly far too many of them whose comebacks have been long confined to the realms of Whovian wishlists.
