10 Things To Expect From The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2

10. Shadow Of The East

At the end of the first season, The Stranger (definitely Gandalf ) and Nori are setting out eastwards on their journey for answers; specifically to the city of Rhûn. The city got a couple of namedrops during the series closer, and whilst that may have resonated with the more avid fans, one thing to learn is that the ruler of that place is known as Khamûl. In time (and the books,) Sauron gives him and eight other kings of men their own rings of power, and then later calls in a favour by turning them into the Nazgûl (Ringwraiths).

There are only two Nazgul named in the LotR trilogy, The Witch King of Angmar, and Khamûl, who is by then known as the "Shadow of the East."

Interestingly, we haven't really been eastwards yet in "RoP" as much of the action was in the Southlands (sorry; Mordor), and the West. Those three witches were from there, apparently, so it's possible that the right part of the map has a little more magic to it. We know from episode one that cows who wander "too far east" end up with black oil for milk, suggesting it is somewhat accursed. Sauron also eventually ends up there doing some army recruitment to strengthen his orc soldier numbers, and therefore the first meeting of his second XO is also likely to be on the cards for season two.
