6. Rick Encounters The Governor And Steps Up As The Leader

Sure, we know the prison and the Governor€™s army (whatever group that ends up being) have to go to battle. It€™s just a fact. Your friend doesn€™t stand in the forest outside your house, peeping in your windows. Even the walkers have the courtesy to let everyone know they€™re there; they€™ve been knocking at the door for ages. These are opposing sides, and they€™re on course for a spectacular collision. That said, behind every great army is a great general. Rick and the Governor are pitted against each other, and we expect to see a clash of the titans. Throughout this season, Rick€™s been trying to descend from his position as the leader. With the council in place, Rick has taken up work as a farmer in the prison. However, a variety of moments have called him to make some difficult decisions; he€™s had to step up as a leader when the situation€™s demanded it. Standing up to Tyreese and exiling Carol highlights Rick€™s relentless call to leadership. A confrontation with the Governor would complete this development, solidifying his necessary position as a leader. For my prediction as to how this encounter will happen, I€™m going to grab a hand from the graphic novels. Specifically, I€™m going to grab Rick€™s hand from the novels because I think he€™s about to lose it. If you€™ve read the series, you know Rick loses his hand to the Governor in Volume 5: The Best Defence. In the television series, losing his hand would destroy his opportunity to continue as a farmer. He would be concretely placed in the role of leader, once again. On the other hand €“ or on his only hand €“ this would cause some difficulties for production. A pant leg can hide Hershel€™s €œmissing€ leg, but I don€™t see Rick shopping at the same glove store as Merle any time soon. For that reason, I don€™t really think they€™ll follow through with it. However, because it€™s such a major scene, I imagine it will be referenced in some form or another when Rick encounters the Governor.
