10 Things We Learned From The Community Cast Reunion

I can't count the reasons I should stay (at home).

The cast of the beloved NBC/Yahoo! Screen sitcom Community reunited for a table read and Q and A session to raise money for World Central Kitchen to provide meals for essential workers. They logged on for a massive Zoom call, during which they read the script for Season 5 Episode 4, Cooperative Polygraphy.

This table read marked the first time Donald Glover, aka Troy Barnes, associated himself with the show since his departure midway through Season 5. In addition to Glover, Joel McHale (Jeff), Gillian Jacobs (Britta), Danny Pudi (Abed), Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley), Alison Brie (Annie), and Ken Jeong (Chang) all reprised their roles for the read. Series creator Dan Harmon read the script's direction, and series regular Jim Rash, whose character Dean Pelton did not feature in Cooperative Polygraphy, directed the episode, while also reading for the minor character Mara. The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal filled in for that episode's guest star, Walton Goggins, as Mr. Stone.

Following the reading of the episode, the cast answered some fan questions from Twitter, shedding light on several big Community mysteries, as well as making it clear what their time on set was like.

The Table Read/Q and A was a success, with the cast raising $96,644.

Here are 10 things we learned from the Community Cast Reunion.

10. Dan Harmon's New Theme Song Verse

In addition to the Community cast, Harmon, and Pascal, one brief guest for the table read was Keith Slettedahl, the lead singer of The 88 and writer of the Community theme song. As the episode’s cold open ended, Slettedahl sang an acoustic version of “At Least it was Here,” the show’s theme.

After Slettedahl’s rendition, Harmon added his own verse to the song, which he wrote in response to current events.

The verse goes:

“Washing those hands, keepin’ apart, wearing our masks, don’t inhale farts. Don’t touch objects that have been touched by any non-essential personnel in fourteen days.”

Though The 88 won’t be adding Harmon’s verse to their performances of “At Least it was Here,” it’s fun that the song got a topical update.
