He had been in all the marketing material, and everyone knew he had signed on. So despite the show hiding his name until after the credits rolled, it was no surprise to see the Smoking Man (or the Cancer Man, if you prefer), played by William B. Davis, back at the end of My Struggle. What was a surprise was how the show brought him back. When the news was first announced, a flashback was suspected. After all, ol' Smokey basically had his face blown off in season nine's series finale, The Truth. A second option would have been to bring CSM (his initials) back as a clone or alien-human hybrid, something already covered in the mythology of the series. However, the producers went another direction, and simply brought him back - with significant facial damage. Other than that, he still has the tracheostomy, and he's still smoking through it. And he's still one of the most evil characters ever created.
