Season 6 Episode 3: "Thank You."

We begin with the most controversial prank in the show's history - Glenn and his dumpster. In the third episode of the sixth season our group stage an elaborate plan to lead a herd of walkers away from town. In the process of fleeing, Glenn gets stuck with Nicholas - the most infuriating and inadequate survivor of a zombie apocalypse.

Glenn and Nicholas get drawn down a dead end alleyway and climb atop a dumpster to avoid the clutches of the surrounding walkers. They're trapped, and there's certainly no plausible way they can survive.

Nicholas, realising this, turns to Glenn and says 'thank you' before shooting himself in the head. The momentum of Nicholas's corpse pushes both him and Glenn into the crowd of walkers. The episode ends on a close up of Glenn's screaming face as his body is ripped apart, resulting in one of the most shocking deaths of a fan favourite character... Or so we thought.

Why is this traumatising? Because we are fooled to believe that Glenn dies a horrifying death. Nicholas actually landed on top of Glenn, and it was his body that got ripped apart. Glenn, magically, was untouched as he managed to crawl underneath the dumpster where he hid overnight.

Fans were devastated by this sudden 'death' of a beloved season one character. It was an unnecessarily deceiving decision by the writers that left fans traumatised for weeks until Glenn's return.
