Looking virtually unrecognisable without her white-blonde locks, trio of flying lizards, and fawning crowds of male admirers, Game Of Thrones' Mother of Dragons becomes the mother of a confusing Christ analogue (who also turns out to be the villain) in this continuity confused Terminator sequel-prequel-remake, which was also directed by her regular Thrones helmer Alan Taylor (he made the ones where her dragons are born and where she rescues them from the House of the Undying).

Clarke is actually the second member of the show's cast to assume Linda Hamilton's role as frumpy waitress turned robot battling asskicker Sarah Connor, following Lena Headey's turn in TV's Sarah Connor Chronicles. While that show was not without its flaws (and, taking place in an alternate timeline, also struggled with the concept of continuity in a time travel franchise), it is an infinitely better follow up to the original movies than this mess of barely connected ideas and plot threads.

Clarke's role in Game Of Thrones has given her one of the most interesting character arcs and suggested a potential star power that could launch her onto the big screen. Here, however, she looks lost and out of place, never really convincing as the same character that Hamilton played (and that's even bearing in mind that character was so different from one movie to the next).

They Said: "'Terminator Genisys' could be Exhibit A in why the current line of thinking in Hollywood regarding sequels/reboots/remakes often leads to terrible decisions and worse films." (LA Times)
