10 TV Scenes You'll Never See

10. The Bestiality Gag - Sex & The City

Quaint though it might seem today, Sex and the City was a truly taboo-busting show of its era, broaching human sexuality with a frankness and sense of humour rarely seen before on American TV.

Yet even the fine folk at HBO had a line that the show just couldn't cross, evidently, when it came to filming just the seventh-ever episode, "The Monogamists."

The episode sees, among other things, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) dating a man, Michael (Jack Koenig), who is pathologically obsessed with receiving oral sex, as understandably proves to be something of a turn-off for her.

We also meet Michael's pet golden retriever, Butterscotch, with the original payoff intended to show Michael engaging in bestiality of all things.

Charlotte ends up storming off from Michael after he again tries to force her to go down on him, and though she returns to him a few minutes later, she walks back in to see Butterscotch, er, doing what Charlotte wouldn't.

The scene wasn't simply written and scrapped - it was shot in its entirety and fully edited into the episode, before the HBO bigwigs saw it and insisted that it be cut.

Sex and the City creator Darren Star told Vanity Fair about the experience:

"It's sort of horrifying that we shot that. We shot him putting peanut butter on his penis, and Charlotte walks back in like, 'Oh, I'm being unreasonable,' and then she sees that... I can't believe we even thought about doing it."

In this case, the world's eyeballs are probably collectively grateful that this scene never made it to air.
