Inspired by real events and real people, Band of Brothers follows Easy Company as they go through boot camp all the way to the end of the Second World War. A successor to Saving Private Ryan, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg were both heavily involved in the production of this miniseries and it shows. Band of Brothers is as exciting, touching, and haunting as the popular film was.

The extra hours spent with these characters really allows the audience to get to know them and understand them as complex people. The series is full of heart and tender moments and knowing that a lot of them happened in real life adds to the connection you will feel to them. The war is never glamorised however, and the show won't shy away from the true horrors of the conflict in some particularly gruesome moments.

Band of Brothers is also full of several cast members before they exploded onto Hollywood's silver screen so look out for such pre-fame actors as Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Tom Hardy. It's truly the best World War II drama you'll find.
