Original Air Date: April 9, 2015 One of the biggest complaints that audiences had with regards to Louie's fourth season was that it wasn't funny. Even if you're a huge fan of the show and the sort of person willing to defend it against naysayers of all shapes and sizes, it's a difficult criticism to turn down: season four had the feel of a dark drama with just the occasional flashes of comedy. But it wasn't bad. As experimental as Louis C.K got with season four - and it did get experimental - the quality of the writing was still there. It just wasn't that amusing; the gag count was too low. Still, you'd think that the first episode of season five - Pot Luck - would have at least attempt to right some of season four's wrongs. Nope: instead, it existed as a bonafide extension of that approach. Only far worse, with a lot less wit. Pot Luck is without a doubt the weakest episode of Louie to date, then: the story, which sees Louie attending a party of New Age parents and making a few faux pas in the process, is as arbitrary as they come. Its worst crime, however, is that - unlike pretty much every other episode of the show - Pot Luck has nothing interesting to say. You come away from it wondering what the point was. And that rarely, if ever, happens with this show. Boo.
