10 TV Shows That Just Got Cancelled

10. Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels

The seductive nature of Showtime and Sky's gripping Penny Dreadful was so alluring that the former just had to commission a spin-off after its third season brought it to an end. And, with that, we got City of Angels - a glossy follow-up set 50 years after the original series, spotlighting Hollywood's notorious Golden Age.

With a solid new premise and a compelling lead performance from Natalie Dormer as the demoness Magda, there was a lot of promise in the spin-off that was only beginning to show itself. Sure, it did struggle to showcase its large cast and it wasn't always a smooth watch, but it did successfully use real-life history to influence its own narrative, and that made it all the more intriguing.

Unfortunately, Showtime decided not to move forward with a second season and cancelled it at the end of August. Though a reason wasn't given, it probably has something to do with the fact that its ratings could never match those of its parent show.
