The TV Show: Freaks and Geeks was another brilliant, but tragically short-lived series. It followed the lives of two social circles at William McKinley High School during the 1980-81 school year: the titular freaks (seen as burn-outs and druggies by the more self-righteous McKinley students) and geeks (seen as nerds and dweebs obsessed with all things Star Wars, Steve Martin, and Caddyshack bywell, by just about everybody). The show featured just 18 episodes during the course of a single season. With such an incredible cast (featuring future stars Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, James Franco, and more), excellent writing, and a kick-ass soundtrack, Freaks and Geeks will be remembered as one of the best TV shows of all time, despite (or perhaps partially because of) its untimely demise. The Film: I know! I know! You're thinking: there's no possible way to make a movie of F&>. Everybody's grown up! Sam Weir is an actual adult with a nearly-deep voice! The kids are kids no longer! Yes. Yes, yes, yes, BUT But what if we caught up with the gang fifteen or twenty years down the road, in the mid-to-late 90's? It would still be a period piece, would still have excellent music (think the truly good end-of-the-century rock), and we could see where everybody ended up. Maybe it's a class reunion, maybe it's a gathering at someone's funeral (ala The Big Chill), or maybe it's something else entirely. Who knows? Well, we might, if they get a Kickstarter campaign cruising.
