10 TV Shows That Led To Other TV Shows Being Cancelled (And Why)
8. Grey’s Anatomy Lead To The Cancellation Of The Crazy Ones
One of the final projects featuring beloved comedy icon Robin Williams before his tragically early death in 2014, 2013’s The Crazy Ones was widely regarded as a passable if somewhat formulaic offering from the actor. The sitcom saw Williams let loose to improvise all forms of madness as he played the kooky father of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s straight laced advertising executive, forced to weather her old man’s wild tangents when she becomes a partner at his firm.
However despite the superb cast and some solid episodes, the show struggled to garner any impressive ratings when it debuted. This unfortunate reality is largely thought to have been caused by the fact that The Crazy Ones shared a time slot with ratings juggernaut and massively popular medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, a show whose competitors rarely last longer than this sitcom’s single season.
Whilst middling reviews were also a factor, the show’s plummet from 15 million viewers circa its pilot to a mere 5 million by its series finale is no doubt due in large part to the enduring appeal of Grey’s Anatomy.
