The beauty of Bender is that on any given episode, you never know exactly where Bender is going to fall on an issue. Is he going to screw everyone over to make a little bit of money, or is he going to stand loyally by his friends? Or maybe ditch the action entirely and just drink himself into a stupor? Honestly, it probably just depends on what kind of mood he's in on that particular day. Fry is a good character, he's funny and everything, but he's very simple. He's sort of dumb but incredibly loyal, and is totally in love with Leela. Dumb, loyal, and in love are the three aspects of his personality that drive literally every single one of his actions throughout the show. So it's sort of interesting that an amoral robot designed simply for bending metal beams into certain angles would be a more emotionally complex character than a flesh and blood human, but that's just the way it goes.
