10 WTF Moments From Japan's Most Insane Reality Show

How far would you go for fame?

If you've been using the internet for more than a few minutes then you've likely seen at least one clip from a zany Japanese game show where a man is being nonchalantly beaten about the face and neck with kendo sticks because he didn't complete a puzzle in enough time or something insane like that. There's your Gaki No Tsukai 24 No Laughing Challenges where a group of comedians run a day long comedy gauntlet trying not to laugh lest they be physically punished, Game Center CX is a show where a comedian named Arino plays difficult retro games to completion despite the fact that he isn't very good at games to begin with, and of course Takeshi's Castle (MXC when it was brought over to the States), a much older game show that could be considered the grandfather of shows like Wipeout and American Ninja Warrior. While all of those shows are great in their own ways, none of them hold a candle to an experimental series known as Denpa Shonen. Considered torture by the Japanese government, the show was ultimately canned due to stricter broadcasting laws, but not before the Japanese public got four seasons of the most insane challenges ever broadcast on television. The first season, known as Denpa Shonen: Nasubi, was hands down the most outlandish premise of the entire series. Could a human being survive off of winning contests and nothing else? Stripped of all of his belongings, including his clothes, and equipped with magazines, postcards, a radio and a telephone that could only receive calls, would he be able to win ten thousand dollars worth of prizes? How long would you last completely cut off from humanity and locked in a single room, without even the clothes on your back to keep you warm or food to keep you alive? If Denpa Shonen is anything to go by, then the answer is a lot longer than you might think...
