4. Show The Trial
Much like not showing much of K'un-Lun, the show definitely suffers by telling us about Danny's trial to become the Iron Fist, and yet not putting any of the darn thing on the bloody screen.
In order to become the Iron Fist, first Danny has to prove himself as a great student, but more than that he has to take on Shou-Lao the Undying, or in other words he has to fight against an immortal dragon.
After defeating Shou-Lao, which includes him getting the dragon 'tattoo' on his chest, he enters the cave the dragon was guarding, and plunges his hand into the brazier containing Shou-Lao's molten heart that had been ripped from his body, thus becoming the Iron Fist. Sure, it might've cost a lot of money to do the dragon justice, but just imagine how great that would've been to see.
