7. My Ship Exploded But I've Returned As An Angel Or Whatever Starbuck (Battlestar Galactica)
Starbuck's death was one of the most shocking elements of season three and her subsequent return in the season finale gave birth to a number of great theories, each more elaborate than the last. She was a Cylon. No, she was the original Cylon. She encountered aliens. She faked her death. She was actually the superhero Ms Marvel. (Okay, maybe not the last one...at least maybe until Marvel's Phase 3). Fan's didn't have any issue with Starbuck's resurrection. Her character was a force of nature on the show, thanks in no small part to Katee Sackhoff's riveting performance and she would have been greatly missed if she had not been part of that final season (or was it two final two seasons?). The mystery of how she survived her exploding viper and her connection to the long sought-after Earth was a key part of the final years. Then came the final episode. (Personally I love 90% it, despite its bad rap). The biggest issue was not with the arrival on our primitive Earth, the death of Laura Roslin or the conclusion of the human / Cylon war. It was the ridiculous, sort-of-but-not-really-explained-reveal of who or what Starbuck was. A guardian angel, guiding the last remnants of humanity to Earth or a figment of everyone's imagination? It didn't really make any sense and it left audiences perplexed. It makes you wonder if she really should have died and stayed dead at the end of season three.
