Perhaps one of the most iconic elements of Hamm's portrayal of Don Draper (once you get past the alcohol dependency and complete weakness for anything in a pencil skirt) is the way he chain smokes his way through even the most serious problems. However, much like the X-Files famous Cigarette Smoking Man, not a single roll-up he's consumed on the show has actually been real, with the actor refusing to consume tobacco for the part. Having given up smoking for real in his mid-twenties, Hamm instead relies on herbal cigarettes to recreate the experience. Good news for his long-term health, but bad news for all the people who've taken up the habit again because of how cool Don Draper makes it look.
