Party Of Five was a quintessential '90s show, and a bit of a whos who to boot. Starring Scream queen Neve Campbell alongside Matthew Fox, Lacey Chabert and Scott Wolf, it boasted an impressive cast, and offered something a bit more grounded than populist sitcoms like Friends or Seinfeld. The 2020 reboot is hoping to have a similar effect.

The original show was centred around the sudden death of the two parents, leaving the five siblings to essentially raise each other. The 2020 version though has something different up its sleeve.

Here, it's a Mexican family having to deal with the fact their parents have been deported. Scathing social commentary, a modern reframing of tragedy or a cheap storytelling device which feels too on the nose; that'll be up to audiences to decide.

Certainly, Party Of Five's original message of a family coming together to overcome a tragedy has a timeless quality, so there's potential there. Whether or not it survives the update remains to be seen.
