Like Baskets, it's hard not to feel that Happy! was slept on somewhat by potential audiences who could have loved it and who could have extended its life as a result.

Based on Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson's comic, the SyFy show was genuinely brilliant, melding pitch black comedy with fantasy elements and the typical pillars of a conventional crime show in one big, swoon-inducing pudding.

Sadly, the cancellation isn't a surprise, because ratings really hit the skids. The second season averaged just 286,000 viewers - which amounted to a fairly catastrophic 57% drop in viewers on the first season.

As a glimmer of hope, Universal Content Productions apparently plans to shop the series to other networks and the first season's strong performance on Netflix might hold some hope.
