Queen Elizabeth II is a character who has already been on our screens for some two seasons and twenty episodes of Netflix's The Crown (not to mention decades as, y'know, an actual real-life person), but there'll be a new take on Her Majesty when the show returns for its third season (expected to be around December).
Claire Foy is having to leave Buckingham Palace and, while she's done a great job, her replacement is more than capable of filling the void. Olivia Colman has long been one of Britain's finest acting talents, equally adept at giving a hilarious sitcom turn or an emotionally devastating dramatic performance.
It's a perfect choice for the next stages of the Queen's life, which aren't necessarily the most exciting (it's post-Churchill and the Coronation, pre-Diana). Colman can illuminate these years with immense likability, poise, strength, and class, bringing new depths to such a well-known figure.
