The film of Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Events wasnt a disaster by any means, but with just one film it didnt get to fully explore the bad luck and misery that falls upon the poor Baudelaire orphans across the 13-book series. Now, over a decade removed from the movie, Netflix are turning it into a TV show.
When the news was first announced, Snicket had this to say: I cant believe it. After years of providing top-quality entertainment on demand, Netflix is risking its reputation and its success by associating itself with my dismaying and upsetting books.
Details are scarce at the moment, but on paper it sounds like a great idea. A TV series will be able to really delve into the source material and expand the characters, especially given the rather episodic nature of the books, and itll be interesting to see just how they handle it. Will one series be an entire book, or just a few episodes, or could they even try and cram it all into one season? Hopefully it wont be too long a wait before we find out.
