Based on the fantasy novels by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone is another Netflix Original set in a world torn apart by an unexplained conflict and a classic good versus evil war.

Early in the show, series protagonist Alina (Jessie Mei Li) finds out she's destined to end the conflict that plagues her world, but before she can achieve what her destiny wants of her, she's told she must learn the full extent of her power and confront who she really is.

This may sound like a relatively standard fantasy yarn, but between its impressive world-building, gorgeous set design and riveting central performances, it's a typical "face the darkness" tale with enough style, energy and moody themes to make it a unique and constantly exciting experience.

Bursting with challenging mythology and slow-burning mystery, Shadow and Bone is sure to be a serious hit, so long as the viewership holds strong and Netflix don't find a reason to axe it before its time.
