15. Tripping The Rift

Raunchier than Futurama and blessed with a far darker sense of humour, the Sci-fi Channel’s Tripping the Rift actually lasted a lot longer than most little-known shows manage, with four seasons and a TV movie to its name.

Yes, the animation was always intentionally pretty ugly, and a lot of the “South Park meets Star Trek” humour is fairly shocking in places.

But this ribald, endearingly silly series remains a testament to the era of adult animated comedy when a cartoon sci-fi series could rely on simple dumb humour and dick jokes for easy laughs instead of ambitious genre deconstructions and faux-deep attempted philosophy—looking at you, Rick and Morty.
